If you enjoyed making fun foods on a stick, we have more skewer recipes for you! We call these snacks on a stick, but you can definitely turn them into meals by adding side dishes. These quick, easy, and customizable delights are also perfect for using up whatever you have in your refrigerator or pantry.
ANTIPASTO SKEWERS
Italian cuisine lovers, this skewer is for you. You may be familiar with antipasto, a delicious appetizer usually consisting of cheese, cured meat, and vegetables. When you make these antipasto skewers, you can include anything you want to create your perfect bite.
Ingredients
- Cheese (we used cheddar and colby-jack)
- Cured meats (we used pepperoni and salami)
- Olives
- Grape tomatoes
- Italian dressing (for finishing or dipping)
Other ingredient suggestions: Artichokes, cheese tortellini, lettuce, lightly toasted bread, mushrooms, and peppers.
Instructions
Cube cheese and add to skewer with the rest of the ingredients. Finish with Italian dressing or present for dipping.
BLT ON A STICK
If you like the satisfying crunch of a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, you’ll enjoy these BLT bites! You can omit the bread if you’re not into the extra carbs. Or, for extra flavor, add cheese or avocado.
Ingredients
- Bacon
- Lettuce
- Cherry tomatoes
Instructions
Cook bacon according to package instructions and preference. Remember, if your bacon is too crispy, it won’t skewer nicely. Add lettuce, bacon, and tomato to skewer.
CHICKEN AND WAFFLE KABOBS
Peanut butter and jelly. Mac and cheese. Popcorn and kakimochi. There are food pairings that just make sense. Another delicious duo: chicken and waffles. This popular dish can be prepared in a variety of ways. For our skewers, we used frozen popcorn chicken and store-bought waffles. But you can make your chicken and waffles from scratch if you prefer. Or buy them from your favorite restaurant. All that matters is that you love them!
Ingredients
- Popcorn chicken
- Waffles
- Maple syrup
Instructions
Prepare popcorn chicken and waffles according to package instructions. Once they’re cool to the touch, add them to a skewer. Drizzle with maple syrup or present for dipping.
STRAWBERRY AND CAKE SKEWERS
If you’re looking for a light and refreshing dessert, these angel food cake skewers will hit the spot.
If you have mini food cutters, you can make fun shapes out of the cake and strawberries! And as usual, customize the skewers if you want to add additional fruit or other ingredients.
Ingredients
- Cake (we used pound cake)
- Strawberries
- Whipped topping
Instructions
Cube the cake or cut them into shapes. For the strawberries, you can skewer them whole, slice, or cut into shapes. Alternate the cake and strawberries on a skewer and finish with whipped topping. Or you can leave the can of whipped topping on the table and have people add as much (or as little) as they want.
CATERPILLARS ON A STICK
Here’s a silly dessert packed with yummy fruits. The candy eyes add a fun element, much to the delight of any kids or picky eaters.
Ingredients
- Strawberries
- Green grapes
- Candy eyeballs
- Whipped topping (or frosting)
Instructions
Slice off strawberry top. Add grapes to skewer until there’s one inch at the top for the caterpillar’s head. Add strawberry for the head. Use whipped topping to stick two candy eyes to strawberry.
Enjoy the variety of snacks on a stick you made!
