Hold the beef but not the taste for this black bean veggie burger. Eating plant-based whole foods can help you lead a healthy lifestyle.


  • 16 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, seeded and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 onion, cut into wedges
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. Thai chili sauce or hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • Cooking spray


In a medium bowl, mash black beans with a fork.

In a food processor, finely chop bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Add to beans with egg, chili powder, cumin, and chili sauce. Stir in bread crumbs and shape into four patties.

Prepare a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Cook patties 10 minutes on each side over medium heat. Makes 4 servings.
