Whether sweet or savory, a party mix of seasoned cereals, nuts, and pretzels is a favorite holiday snack. While the mix of ingredients varies according to personal taste, many recipes call for butter or sugar. Here’s a heart-healthy recipe made with olive oil, herbs, and no added salt. Also, no peanuts!

If you don't have a gigantic bowl, use a stockpot or Dutch oven.

HEALTHIER PARTY MIX

Ingredients

  • 3 cups corn Chex
  • 3 cups wheat Chex
  • 3 cups multi-grain Cheerios
  • 3 cups sourdough pretzels
  • 1 cup raw pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. dried thyme
  • 2 Tbsp. dried rosemary
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. onion powder
  • Butter-flavored cooking spray
  • Butter-flavored sprinkles

Instructions
Preheat oven to 300 F. Line a large roasting pan with parchment paper and set aside.

In a gigantic bowl, combine cereals, pretzels, and pumpkin seeds. In a small saucepan over low heat, whisk olive oil with thyme and rosemary. Heat just until warm, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in maple syrup. Pour over cereal, sprinkle with garlic and onion powders, and toss gently to mix well. Transfer mixture to roasting pan. Spray lightly with butter-flavored cooking spray and sprinkle with butter-flavored sprinkles. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes and sprinkling with butter-flavored sprinkles. Makes about 10 cups.
