This month, Daifukuji celebrates their recognition as the first Blue Zones Project Approved faith-based organization in West Hawaii.

Daifukuji Soto Mission is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple, founded in 1914. They offer over 20 programs and activities to members and the community. Through their participation with the Blue Zones Project, Daifukuji has been able to showcase the many well-being initiatives they provide to their members and the community. The temple offers plant-based potlucks, opportunities to volunteer in Project Dana, a free monthly kupuna activity program, tai chi, yoga, and meditation. Daifukuji Soto Mission creates a strong sense of community among its members, which helps establish healthy lifestyle behaviors and promotes longevity.

Temple members celebrated their approval on Buddha’s Birthday. The celebration featured a spring egg hunt for keiki and a plant-based meal. Members shared that participating in the Blue Zones Project has strengthened relationships as they walk weekly in their walking moais. Each Monday, 27 walkers start their moais with a tai chi exercise as a warm-up and spend 30 minutes walking and talking around the property.

 Congratulations Daifukuji!
