With students free from school for the next couple of months, the busy summer travel season is officially underway! Whether you’re planning a trip abroad or a staycation at home, we have tips to help you make the most out of your vacation time.

easing the stress of summer travel
I love exploring new places, but planning, packing, and even getting to the destination can be a pain. But it doesn’t have to be; some well-versed travelers shared their top tips to help ease the stress of summer travel. One of my favorites: use packing cubes! They save so much space and keep everything organized, so you don’t need to dig through piles of clothes once you arrive at the hotel.

keep everyone safe on summer outings
Summertime often means more time for family beach trips, hikes, and water activities. Outdoor fun is a great way to spend time off, especially here in Hawaii, but with the intense heat and high number of mountain and ocean rescues this time of year, it’s also important to consider the health and fitness status of everyone joining in on activities. Follow these safety resources, which are helpful for locals and visitors alike.

last-minute travel: healthy tips on the go
Every time my husband and I have a planned vacation, we take every precaution we can to stay healthy leading up to departure day (and beyond). But life doesn’t always go as planned, and sometimes, last-minute travel may be necessary. If you find yourself needing to leave the Islands abruptly this summer, follow these guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stay as healthy as possible.

pack your suitcase like a pro
I’ll admit it – I’m an over-packer when it comes to trips. I don’t even know how it happens, but before I know it, my suitcase is bursting with clothes, shoes, and toiletries. But don’t fret! There are some travelers who are experts at saving space in their luggage, packing everything they need in just a backpack and small carry-on. Watch this video to learn how to pack like a pro.

training for travel
Walking is one of my favorite ways to exercise, and I try to aim for 10,000 steps daily. My legs are usually sore by the end of the day, which is fine when I’m about to head to bed. But when it’s vacation time, that just won’t do! Exploring often means a LOT of walking, and more than what you would typically do. That doesn’t mean you need to end each vacation day exhausted (or worse, injured). Start improving your stamina and getting your body used to more intense physical activity by training for travel.

travel that gives back
We are so lucky to live in Hawaii, where it’s warm year-round, rich with community and culture, and naturally beautiful with its deep blue ocean, soft sandy beaches, and lush landscapes. When we need a break from the daily grind, it’s easy to escape into nature and enjoy all our aina has to offer. But it’s also important to care for the land that gives us so much. The next time you’re enjoying a staycation, consider a unique experience that also gives back.

vacationing for well-being
Being overworked and stressed can lead to health issues in the future; that’s why we all need breaks to avoid burnout! Exploring a new place not only allows you to learn about different cultures, but it can also provide some life perspective and much-needed quality time with loved ones. Discover the physical and mental health benefits of going on vacation and changing up your daily routine.
