This Halloween, if you’re worried about getting booed when giving non-candy treats to your keiki, their classmates, or the neighborhood children, don’t worry! These easy-to-make goodies are so fun and adorable that no one will be thinking of candy.
YOU BRIGHTEN MY HALLOWEEN PRINTABLE
This simple but practical Halloween giveaway will light up any trick-or-treater’s mood (or path!). Use our instructions below if you’re handing them out right away because you have to activate the glow stick to shape it into a bracelet. Alternatively, you can affix the stick to the card (without activating it) or place the card and glow stick in a cellophane bag and seal it with a Halloween sticker or tie it with ribbon.
Supplies
- Printable template
- Crayons or markers (optional for black and white template)
- Scissors
- Glow sticks
- Glue dots
Instructions
Print out template. There are four cards per page. Page 1 is in color, and page 2 is in black and white. If your keiki want to get creative, they can color the template.
Cut cards and write your child’s name at the bottom (or they can write it themselves).
Bend the glow stick into bracelet and affix it to the card with a glue dot. That’s it!
Important safety notice for the crafts containing googly eyes: Please keep in mind that googly eyes could be removed by tiny hands and may pose a choking hazard for young children. Distribute at your discretion.
CREEPY CRAWLER KIDS DOUGH
My child loves playing with non-toxic dough, but she’s not great at closing the containers tightly, so it tends to dry out. That’s why we’ve been buying her 1-oz. containers to reduce the risk of waste. These containers are the perfect size for Halloween gifts, especially when you transform them into creepy crawlers with pipe cleaners, glue, and googly eyes.
Note: We’re not calling them spiders since they only have four legs. But you can add more legs to make them authentic arachnids!
Also, we matched the color of the top of the clay containers with the pipe cleaners, but you can use any color combination you want.
In addition to a pair of scissors, for each creepy crawler you need:
Supplies
- 1 pipe cleaner
- 1 1-oz. container non-toxic modeling dough
- Glue/glue dots/hot glue gun
- Googly eyes
Instructions
Cut pipe cleaner in half. Twist the two halves in the middle and glue to the top of the dough container. Affix googly eyes.
Bend legs for extra creepiness. Enjoy scaring and delighting people of all ages!
BOO-TIFUL GHOST BUBBLES
This whimsical gift will delight kids of all ages. You can make customizable ghosts out of mini bubbles and wands with just three to four items.
Supplies
- Mini white containers of bubbles with wands (look in the wedding section of big box stores)
- Googly eyes
- Glue/glue dots (if the googly eyes aren’t self-adhesive)
- Permanent marker
Instructions
Add googly eyes to bubble containers.
Draw mouths with marker. Let dry for at least 10 minutes to avoid smudging. Then, it’s bubble time!
MUMMY FRUIT POUCHES AND DRINKS
Fruit pouches and juice boxes are yummy and convenient, especially when they’re made of 100% fruit and contain no added sugar. With just a few supplies, you can turn these typical lunchbox items into fun Halloween giveaways.
Note: Since there have been reports of recalls for certain cinnamon applesauce pouches, it’s important to do your research before you make any purchases.
Supplies
- Fruit pouches
- Juice boxes
- Tape
- White crepe paper
- Scissors
- Googly eyes
- Glue dot (if googly eyes aren’t self-adhesive)
- Permanent marker
Instructions
Note: If you want the recipient to enjoy the juice box with the crepe paper intact, remove the straw before wrapping and reattach with a glue dot after you decorate the box.
Add a small piece of tape to the end of the crepe paper and stick it to the top back of the pouch or juice box. Wrap it to resemble mummy bandages.
When you get to the bottom, cut the crepe paper and tape it down. Affix googly eyes and draw a mouth. You can also use stickers to decorate, it’s up to you.
