I’m the kind of person who doesn’t really care about sports, including the holy grail of sporting events, the Super Bowl. However, I do enjoy a good party spread. Here are some crowd-pleasing, low-stress recipes you can bring to your next Super Bowl party.
FOOTBALL-SHAPED LUNCHEON MEAT MUSUBI
A luncheon meat musubi is the perfect gameday snack. It’s fun to make, portable, and hits the spot. If you don’t have a football-shaped cookie cutter, you can use an oval one or just estimate the shape as you cut it. Whatever you decide to do, it will be delicious.
We have an option to make a shoyu-sugar sauce you can use to finish your luncheon meat, but plain is fine, too. My picky eater child prefers a plain luncheon meat musubi.
Note: If you don’t have a musubi mold, wrap the rice in plastic wrap and shape it into a rectangle by hand. Or you can try this hack using a luncheon meat can!
Ingredients
- 12-oz. can low-sodium luncheon meat, sliced into 8 slices (or however many musubis you want to make)
- 3 cups cooked rice (we used brown rice), divided
- Nori, cut into strips (thick or thin, depending on your preference)
Optional sauce
- 2 Tbsp. low-sodium shoyu
- 2 Tbsp. sugar or sugar alternative (we used granulated sucralose)
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, fry luncheon meat slices until they’re cooked to your preference. Then, transfer luncheon meat onto a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
If you’re making the sauce, combine shoyu and sugar in a small bowl and mix until sugar dissolves. Add to pan with luncheon meat after it’s cooked to your preference. Continue cooking until luncheon meat is glazed.
Once luncheon meat is cool enough, cut into football shapes. Add rice to musubi mold and press firmly. Place football onto rice. Dab your fingers and dampen the ends of two nori slices. Place nori on football and wrap around the rice. You’re done!

This may seem like a fancy name for a hot dog platter, but it’s so much more! We carefully curated a Super Bowl dining experience that has something for everyone. Just kidding, it’s a hot dog platter. But we’re adding a variety of toppings and healthy-ish sides to increase the fun factor and nutritional value. The best part about it is that you can customize the board with your favorites.
Ingredients
- Hot dogs (beef, chicken, turkey, plant-based, veggie)
- Buns (regular, brioche, lettuce for wrapping)
- Condiments (barbecue sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, sauerkraut)
- Sides (carrots, chips, grapes, olives, pickles, pretzels)
Instructions
Place hot dogs in buns (or lettuce) and cut in half. Arrange on platter and add toppings and sides. Then it’s time to feast!

ORANGE CREAM GELATIN SLICES
This refreshing dessert may resemble orange slices, but it’s really a fluffy, creamy orange dream in disguise. We used sugar-free orange gelatin and sugar- and fat-free whipped topping for a lighter treat, but other recipes called for melted vanilla ice cream instead of whipped topping. Sounds decadent.
Since this is a Super Bowl recipe, you can use different flavors of gelatin to represent the colors of your favorite team!
Ingredients
- 5 medium oranges
- 1 cup boiling water
- 8-oz. container whipped topping
- 3-oz. box orange gelatin
Instructions
Scrub the outside of oranges and cut in half. Hollow out orange halves carefully. You can squeeze the juice out or eat the insides, it’s up to you! Place orange halves in muffin tin to keep stable.
In a large mixing bowl, add boiling water and gelatin. Stir until gelatin is dissolved. Add whipped topping and mix until well incorporated. Pour mixture into orange halves. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until set. You can slice the oranges in half (into quarters) or eat them as is. Whatever you decide, it’s sure to be a touchdown!
